To celebrate Hans-Joachim Roedelius's 90th birthday, a limited 4LP box set of unreleased material is being released. Most of the music on "90" comes from the 2-track Revox tapes (1968-80).

Created with his Echolette tape delay unit and Farfisa organ, the equipment on which Achim recorded his beloved Self-Portrait records and much of the groundbreaking work with Dieter Moebius and Michael Rother, the Revox tapes document the processes and sounds that continue to inspire generations of music lovers and sound adventurers.

"90" is by no means intended as a comprehensive retrospective of the work of a major artist. The actual chronology of these pieces, and in some cases, the information about who may have collaborated with Achim on them, remain a mystery. But the historical context of this music is undeniably captivating—it seems no exaggeration to claim that these cascading, hypnotic cycles are on par with the finest contemporaries like Terry Riley, who was working on his own minimalist masterpieces on the other side of the world. For now, a celebration suffices—the portrait of an extraordinary life at 90, told in beautiful, intimate, innovative music.
