It's been a while since the fantastic album 'The Function Room' introduced the ramshackled 'junkern' pop of Half Cousin in to the world. Two years in fact, since the timeless tracks such as Country Cassette, Mrs Pilling... and The Diary Fire invited us to experience the rich and strange Orkadian world conjured by that of its brain child Kevin Cormack.
Now, Cormack and Co, return from the wilderness with another set of tales from the Scottish Isles that are sure to be witch and be beguile both fans and newcomers alike. Entitled 'Iodine' the new album introdues a variety of new character's amongst a windswept journey through junk percussion, wonky electronics and intricate folk stylings that make for a cohesive, slow burning often cinematic set.
Despite its official release date of March 26th, the record is now available from our very own record stores at a reduced price and all orders will be accompanied by an exclusive Gronland sampler (featuring some might fine tracks!).
Keep your eyes out also for a limited 7" of the album's opening track Big Chief (The B&B Frequenter) which will feature an exclusive remix by The Earlies scheduled for release on April 16th.
“Rich in effortlessly lovely psych-folk and instantly bewitching junkshop electronica. Comparisons with Syd Barrett, early Bjork or Devendra Bamahart barely do 'Iodine' justice; a thing of wild and magical beauty” Uncut
"Half Cousin provokes comparisons with Art Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin and Ivor Cuttler all at once." MOJO
"Half Cousin are a metaphysical revolution playing junked-up pastoral music for the psychiatric set. Which is a good thing - trust us." NME
"This eclectic blend makes for a joyous, fun-filled ride and it's organic beauty acts as an ideal brochure for the Orkney Islands tourist board." Time Out
